Khmer has borrowed many words for the Indic languages Sanskrit
and Pali. Khmer has a very difficult pronunciation and is written in an
alphabet derived from Indic and adapted to the pronunciation. In 1910
a system was developed which enabled Khmer to be written in the Roman
alphabet.
